Just heard of people using teflon tape on the breech plug instead of the messy grease. Just wondering how to use the tape. I assume you just wrap the threads on the breech plug covering them completely. Is there a specific amount of overlaps one should make with the tape or is it a matter of figuring out what works best for a specific gun?

I've been using teflon tape - no grease at all - for the last year or so. It works great. I use three wraps on the threads and press it into the threads with my finger, but every breech plug is different so you need to experiment a little to see how much works for you. I put enough on so that the plug is a little on the tight side going in. I've never had a stuck plug or any fouling in the thread area using the tape, even after a 50 shot range session and leaving the gun sit overnight before cleaning.

Thanks for the info. Forgot to ask this as well, do you use the Thompson Center Teflon Tapr or just the tape used in plumbing?

Use any of the teflon tapes from Lowes, Home Depot, or your local hardware store. I use the yellow "gas line" tape, but any will do - white, yellow, pink.

Just another tip:
As you wrap your plug, it is important to wrap it in the direction that will allow the tightening of the plug to keep the tape where you put it. And as others have said, this will prevent you from sticking your plug very reliably.

I used the tape before when I shot Triple Se7en and I did not care for it. Now that I am shooting Blackhorn 209, I do like it. I shot 30 shots yesterday in my Omega and I pulled the plug today and it came out just fine. I still use "The Stick" when I shoot Pyrodex though.
