In fifteen days I will be shooting in a egg shoot where 4 medium sized eggs will be hanging on 6 inch strings and seperated by 10 inches at 100 yards. Rifles legal for deer hunting In Arkansas must be used so I will be going with my Savage .243. I will have four minutes to shoot four shots but since there will probably be several burst all four eggs I want to use as much speed as I can without missing.
Although I don't expect to win I will give it my best. I will have to use factory loads and I need to take what I have to the range and test for accuracy.. I have Winchester ballistic silvertip in 55 grain bullets, Remington express Core-Lokt in100 grain, Remington Premier accutip in 75 grain bullets. Winchester SuperX 80 Grain pointed soft point and Hornady custom in 95 grain bullets. This means I will be shooting more than usual determining the best ammo to use. I am not necessarily wanting to win the trophy but I do want to avoid embarrassing myself. I want to bust all four eggs. but if someone does it quicker I will still feel fine. Missing four eggs at 100 yards would be shameful.
My wife declares that I will win the event and that is a lot of pressure. Maybe I should declare myself not eligible due to the fact that I did it proffessionally for several years. That would be a cop out. eh. OK, I am a little nervious that my showing will not be to my usual standards. Isn't it absolutely great that a man of 80 who has traveled the road so many times still gets butterflies when it is crunch time. I love it and feel alive with expectations. Ozark.
