I'll be starting an AR15 build pretty soon, and I'm up in the air about what I'm actually going to build. The purpose of the gun will be an NRA High Power Match rifle. I already have a service rifle that I've done pretty well with. I'm building the match rifle because I enjoy shooting them more, and I really want something that I can shoot the long range matches with (out to 1000 yds). I'm just not that impressed with the .224 bullets at that range, so I want to build something that shoots 6mm bullets. I'm thinking about the 6mmBR, 6mmAR, 6mm ARturbo, or the 6mm Hagar. Anyone have any experiences with these in an AR?
Thanks, Mark

The next one I build will be 6.5 Grendal.

If I build it to shoot the .308 or bigger, then I'm limited to a rail gun on an AR15 frame. That would make rapid fire strings VERY challenging I've looked at the 6.5 Grendal, but I don't think that the case capacity is enough to get the velocity up where I want it using the 140gr bullets. Anything lighter than 140gr, and theirs no advantage over the 6mm bullets in the 105gr weight class. The 6mmAR is a 6.5 Grendel that has been run through a 6mm sizing die. It spits the 105 gr bullets out at around 2750fps, which isn't too bad at all. I've found a company/guy (Dtech) up in MN that seems to build some really good AR15 uppers using the larger bolt from Olympic Arms. I've read a lot of stuff from various varmit pages, and guys seem to love his stuff, and really enjoy dealing with him. It looks like he builds uppers in all of the WSSM chambers, as well as 6.5 Grendel, 6mm AR, 6mm BR, and a few other 6mm choices, and his prices are a LOT more reasonable than some of the other places that I've looked. I think his basic upper runs around $750 which isn't bad for what he's offering. Mark

That is not bad pricing at all considering what you are getting, especially if that is a complete upper with bolt carrier group and match grade barrel.

It wouldn't have sights, but the bolt has been trued and lapped with the barrel.

So Mark, not that you would want it, but do you know of anyone besides HK that is building a piston operated 308 upper?

No, not really. I've never paid much attention to the .308 auto's, so I couldn't tell you much about them. This will probably be one of the few semi-auto projects that I do. I am generally a fan of bolt guns, but the AR's are cheap and shoot so darn good that I couldn't resist. Besides that, shooting a bolt gun across the coarse would not be my idea of fun. I've seen a few guys do it, and they look amazing during rapid fire strings.
