Add 1 for my 10yr old son. This is his third buck with a muzzleloader but the first with the savage. The other two were with a regular smokepole. The MLII is so much more enjoyable to shoot. This one was taken Saturday morning at 83yds with 56gr. of N120 and 300gr. BO, MMP orange sabot. Deer took two hops and fell over. Complete pass through. Bullet hit the bottom of the shoulder blades. Temperature was 23deg.

Mark up one more for the BO!!
Friday late afternoon I harvested another doe with the BO. I was sitting on a chair in a fence row about 350 yds north of the blind I killed my doe and buck from during opening weekend. 117 yds with about a 15 mph cross wind shooting off the Stoney Point Pole Cat Bi-Pod. Held for the high shoulder shot but did not compensate for the wind. Bullet hit about 4 inches behind the scapula and about 2" below the spine. Deer jumped that same fence and bounded into the same standing corn field that the first doe did on the opening evening. This one only made it into the 4th row of corn (about 30 yds from where she was standing when I shot) before running out of steam!! Pass through with entry and exit holes both about 1" dia. Clipped two ribs on the way in and two on the way out.

200 yards broadside using 75gr 10x, crush rib sabot and BO. Was an offhand shot so bullet didnt go exactly where I would have liked it. Entered slightly behind left front should and exited mid body on the far side. Clipped near side lung. Buck ran a "google earth" verified .53 miles before giving up.

Nice buck! Glad to see all of these posts with Reloder 7... I only finished my daughters buck with a BO, BCR, and R7. It has gone bang every time I have pulled the trigger... whether unloading or finishing off her buck. I have great confidence in R7! That wasn't always the case with IMR 4198...

The young Fireman friend of my daughter bought his MLII this summer and it is a shooter with 59 1/2 N120 ,bcr and bo's . This is his second season hunting deer, and the first with the MLII. Seeing me shoot a 100 yd bang flop last year did all the selling he needed to see. I'm happy to report he executed a laser ranged 156yd bang flop of his own , as well as a 50 yd walking shot on fat does. I shot two senior citizen does( found their AARP cards on em) and one of my favorite kind ,with the milk still dripping from it's chin. Ranges 75, 125, and my farthest to date 235 yds on the little one (bang flop-hi shoulder shot) The biggest doe took it quatering to ,exited the off side ham. Flawless performance from the BO's,worth every penny

Two for me and one for my friend Ed. I took a nice doe with devestating shoulder damage. Deer #2 was a nice six point with bullet placement just in front of shoulder in the middle of the neck. Much better shot ...MUCH less damage both deer instant DRT with pass throughs. 60 gr N120-Orange MMP..
Ed's deer was shot with an Omega with 150 gr 777 with black crush rib. Hard raking angled shot opened up a large entry in the ribs then lodged in the neck. Buck then travelled approx 60 yds and piled up. Savage 's ++ 400 fps velocity definitely smacks then a bit harder.

I recommended the BO along with 60grs of N120 and a HBCR sabot to a buddy from work. He went out on the Illinois opening day and dropped a 9 point buck and a doe with this load. The doe was DRT and the buck ran across a creek and dropped. Both were boiler room shots at around 60yds. He said that both bullets hit right where he aimed. This was his first year using the Savage, and he's sold..................... ;D

Add 1 for me. Shot an eight point with the BO and I think I will have a recovered bullet to show. I can see where it broke the rib on the far side angling toward the shoulder but don't see an exit hole. I was sitting in my stand when I heard the guy that was hunting about 200 yards behind me let loose with 5 shots and on the 5th shot I could hear the slug skipping through the trees in my direction so I knew he didn't get the deer and it was coming my way so I got ready. I saw the buck running down the edge of the cornfield coming towards the property I was hunting and I decided that he was a shooter. As he crossed the property line I tried to stop him or at least slow him down for a second with a sharp hey but after being shot at 5 times already he was on a mission. He was running but not full speed at about 120 yards when he hit the property line and I was pretty sure I could make a good shot so I led him around 2', followed and pulled the trigger. He was angling away and about 150 yards by the time I shot and caught him a little far back but the bullet still made it to the chest cavity. (with a loud thud that sounded like shooting a groundhog with a varmint rifle). He made it 20 yards before he went down. As I got down to look at him I saw the neihbor coming along the edge of the field and I figured he was going to come over and say that was his deer and he shot it but instead he turned the corner and went home, I guess he was a little upset. If I find the bullet I will post it if I can figure out how. davemi The scenario you described happens to often, hunters unloading there guns on deer and just hoping to hit the thing , Often when some of them do connect it is not a killing shot. I have had slugs impact in the trees near me on 3 different occasions. I think that using weapons where you only have 1 shot tends to make hunters do what you did, take your time and make one well placed shot, congratulations . I think that judging a bullets effectiveness based on whether or not there is an exit hole is missing one important consideration. If the bullet stops in the deer there is no chance of it stopping in something that was not our Intended target. Well Done.

+1 for Team-Tar. I shot a doe this evening at 200-225 yds, at the report she dropped in her tracks and her tail twichted 2-3 times and all was still.I shot her across a huge ravine and had to drive around to get her.(I am lazy ;D)The drive took approx. 12-15 mins max.The d**n yotes had already found her and was just starting to work on her when I arrived. They had not got into the flesh but had started pulling hair! That was fast!d**n devil dogs!I know what I am going to be shooting and snaring after deer season!

Add 3 more- should be at 70 now.
67g 4198, CR, 300gr BO, canjar trigger, boyds varmiter stock (ff barrel, home bedded action.
1 was at 240yds. b.s. ~120# ran about 100 hit a touch back. Great blood trail, knew she was a dead deer running. Big hole in and out.
The group scattered.
Shot #2 was at ~300 and was a miss high (using a limb as a rest).
they run closer. Yup.
Shot 3 is broadside at 140. Didnt even see her 110 #s drop. Big hole in and out.
Shot 4 was a small ~80# doe at 180. Think she was lost in the action. The Cr are becoming hard to cram down the barrel at this point. Hit her slight quartering tomiddle of shoulder and dropped on spot. The bullet appears to have deflected hard and exited on the inside of the same side thigh. I will know more post processing.
these guns are the best.
