hillbill, Sounds like your friends needs to hit the vitals more often and sharpen up on marksmanship. Not sure if switching bullets will help their problems. JMO You got that right.

We don't have a ton of field experience with the BO. My son and I have shot at 9 deer over the last 4 years and recovered 9 deer, 5 bucks and 4 does. All where shot from 50-177 yds, most in the 110-140 range. The longest track job was my buck this year of 50-60 yds and that was because I made a bad shot and shot it too far back. Most fall with 10-30 yds with double lung shots. We have not made a shoulder shot on any of these deer so we have no field history for that shot selection. I have no reason to believe that the BO would not work well with a shoulder shot it is just not our first choice when we have other options open to us.
So far so good, I see no reason to change unless I convert to a .45

deer #2 was a doe at 80 yds broadside slighty quartering to me entry low behind shoulder exit low mid ribs with lots of damage between, knocked her off her feet she then ran 30 yds before piling up. my three friends havent been as fortunate with six deer shot and only two recovered, they have given up on bos, they call them hole punchers with hole in hole out same size and almost no blood anyway ILL be going with a 45 pacnor soon and will have 150 bos for sale 43.00 per box shipped if you take all, pm me if interested. Bill pm sent for bullets

I have to agree with these gents. I don't care what bullet anyone else uses so use the one you feel most comfortable with. There are no magic bullets, you still have to put them in the right spot.

Add 1 small buck for me. The deer was standing quartering away. BO took out the front of the liver, both lungs and exited the far shoulder. The deer ran 30 yards leaving a blood trail that was best described as heavy. Exit hole was larger than a golf ball.
I have not chrono'd the load, but am assuming it was doing around 2200-2300 fps. The load was 56 grains of N-120 under an orange sabot. Very accurate in my rifle.

60 gr N120 – Doe 95 yards –The group came through spooked and stopped - She never moved after the shot- she walked into the brush 30 yards and died. Shot the top of her heart. Not much expansion about 1 ½ in and out. Minimal meat damage. I think I could like the heart shot.

For whoever is counting you can add 1 more to the scoreboard, I shot a doe in the noggin yesterday with a BO. Its amazing how this gun has changed the way I feel about killing deer, With my old muzzloader I would have been wondering if I would have even hit the deer. now I am trying to understand why did the bullet hit the deer in the eye when I am sure the crosshairs were in between both eyes The distance was 75 yards.

OK, hold on. Some crazy, misinformed, goofball up there said there are no magic bullets. WHAT? The 300g B.O. is magic. I know it is. It not only kills deer, it clearly changes directions in mid flight to hit vitals that I normally miss! Tell me that ain't magic!! And to the question about a shoulder shot, a 145 lb 8-pt dropped DRT when hit broadside in the shoulder with a B.O. pushed by 60 g of VV N120.

Hey Buckrub...I'm that misinformed goofball and I praise the performance of the mighty BO!! ;D The magic BO didn't keep me from missing a nice doe this weekend at 180 yds. In fact I missed her so bad she let me reload and have another crack at her at about 190 yds. Missed her the 2nd time too. Scratched my head all the way home. So I put up a target in the field behind the house at 190 yds and proceeded to kill the target deader than a door nail. Just goes to show you that you gotta do your part at the moment of truth!!

WHAT? You blew my Xmas. The B.O. is NOT magic?
Oh the humanity! Tell me it ain't so.
Wait.....did you use the magic powder too? Maybe that's it.

There you go! VV N120 is indeed magic. I've proven it.
You just didn't have ENOUGH magic, dude. Trust me on this. I can't hit the ground, so I KNOW it takes magic for me to kill something........
