That thrid doe was basically ruined. Hit the back of the front shoulder, ran along the spine breaking vertebrae, entered the front of the back leg, went through the muscled and leg bone and stopped at the back skin. Yowzas! The lead completely separated from the copper. Petal-ed beautifully and the lead mushroomed nicely. My scale is broke but from eye shot it appears to have retained the vast majority of its weight.

Another doe at 199 lasered yards.Double lunged, pass thru, went 70 yards with no blood trail.Same size entrance and exit holes. This is a very accurate load for me but as soon as I get time to resight my ML I will be going back to the 300XTP,I get a lot better bullet performance.

153- As long as the lions share of your shooting is done at under 200 yds no reason to go with the expensive BO, shoot over that alot or just want to be prepared for it, the BO is the ticket. Need alot of penetration, keep the BO. Going for typical whitetail bullet performance, the xtp gets the nod. 75 total so far gents!

Guys I might be out of the picture for a few days so if you get a BO kill go ahead and make a post and when I get back online I will tally things up. Thanks Rman

My 14 year old daughter got a doe in first season. BO with 40 grains of 110. 2125fps. Recoil not bad and good accuracy. This makes 4 years in a row she has gotten her deer. She really wants a buck so we will be out this weekend to try. Bluerock1
Update: She shot a 6 pt. this weekend during second season. This was her first buck and she was really excited! I suggested I might have to find her a 10ML of her own for next year and she said I should find a new one for me, as she liked this one! It's been a great season!

Rifleman,
Chalk up a 10-point. 90 yards, quartering to me. Entrance was slightly high on the left shoulder and exit was through the second rib on the right side. 60 gr VV N-120, BO with BCR and Fed 209. He high kicked, ran about 30 yards and was done. Gross score in the low 130's Boone and Crockett.

All right then. I've been absolutely itchin to break out the MLII after a heartbreaking miss at a giant with my bow. I took an easy shot for granted and left all rules of good archery form, to take credit for a MISS at a very easy range at a near 180 typical.
I took the MLII out for the holiday doe season in Iowa which allows all guns (except center fires, at least where I hunt) 3 day season & went out last day to set personal best for a distance shot.
Ended up taking a doe at 240 yards. Interesting though. It was a stiff crossbreeze at about 15mph I'd guess. I was looking for a 300 yard shot but the furthest target I could get was 240.
Interesting because I don't have alot of experience playing the windage and I way overestimated the needed windage adjustment. With the crossbreeze I aimed right at her guts thinking it would blow the bulllet into her vitals. I hit her right in the guts where I amied but still ended up with a lethal shot.
Now the breeze where I sat was prevelant, but either the downrange crossbreeze was way less, or these 300 grain Barnes Originals at 2350fps don't drift much at all. Since I was shooting down a fairly narrow but long feild, it's possible the downrange crossbreeze was quite a bit less than I was feeling since my position was more open than where the target was standing, or the bullets just don't blow as much as anticipated.
Non the less, a new personal best from 234 to now 240yards with the BO and 72.5 gn of R 10x.
You ALL will now if I get the big guy with the MLII since I will likely take out ads in every paper in the country. I've seen him 6 times the first being the lame shot I took with a bow.
Just a freindly reminder to all, make the shot first, then look to see if you got him. Sorry I couldn't post pictures of him. I've let myself down but intend to show him to you during either shotgun or Late Muzzleloader season. BTY I only use a MLII for shotgun season If I decide to try for him then.
No bullet recovery.

I shoot the BO at about 2400 fps. At 250 yds a 10 mph or so 90* cross wind will blow the bullet about 6 or 7". If you crunch the numbers on any of the ballistic calculators the actual wind drift I have witnessed is about 2/3 of what the calculators say.

Thanks Chris. I guess about twice that windage. Your observation plus the theory of the downrange wind being less, probably only required 3-4 inches.

cold night tonight around -7c...not sure what that is in F. 20 mins before dark a nice mature doe stepped out at the end of the field. I have been hunting with my 70 yr old dad this week here in southern ontarios late gun season. Dad wanted to hunt down the field some so we could cover more ground. well the doe steps out and starts to feed nice and calmly until it sees my dad a couple hundred yards from her. As my dad gets older his ablility to sit still has been radically impaired. between eating little chocolate bars and blowing his nose and adjusting his postion he just isnt stealthy lol. anyways the doe can tell the guy eating and doing a jig at the end of the field shouldnt be there and gets nervous. I settled the zeiss crosshairs on her chest and squeezed the trigger. at 225 paces the barnes original smashed thru both lungs and she ran 80 yards before dropping. The thing that I have noticed the last two seasons hunting with a ml2 is that I have so much confidence in my rifles ability that I dont think twice about shooting 200plus yards if the conditions are right. The absolute best thing about this years hunt is that I have been lucky enough to share it with my dad. 2 deer in 2 nights I am a lucky, grateful man. ps I have to thank guys like panhandle who sent me some sabots for the bo that I couldnt find here in Canada. I have learned so much from this site and from all the posters great folks all. I have been fortunate enough to "pay it forward" with info, sabots and bullets to some new savage shooters here in ontario. still 2 days of season here and to all those still hunting goodluck and be safe wicket

Let's up the tally one more time. I shot a big doe @ 60 yards, pass through with a great blood trai. She ran/ stumbled about 40 yards. It will be time to hunt for a good shooter next time.

FINALLY!!! You can put one up for me, one antlered buck (matched my daughters!)... 180 yds, BO, BCR, 70gns of Reloder 7. He was quartering away slightly, through both lungs, ran 200yds at and then past me... died 20 yds from the lane. It was an easy drag, I could tell he was hit good cause he barely made the treeline out of the cornfield. I was surprised he ran that far... I thought about a high shoulder but seeing he was that far out and I was shooting in 26 mph sustained winds gusting to 38 mph I figured I would stick with the boiler room shot. It hit right where I had the crosshairs not much drift at all. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with my set up! I am done tinkering! 70 gns RL7, 300gn BO, BCR, factory laminate stock, Black Iced (tefloned) blued barrel, Fed 209A, stock plug, homebrew vents. I only bedded the recoil lug, I was going to do the rest in the off season, don't need to! I am done! Don't need a 3rd pillar, don't need a Rayhill stock... would like one , but don't need it to do what I am doing. I was not getting under one inch groups at 100yds consistently (most are under 1.5") but when I saw the accuracy I was getting down range (175, 250, and 300 yds) I was not concerned about it... I knew the BO would go where it was aimed. Well worth the money spent and the 2 boxes shot up BO's! Definitely a BO convert!

deer #2 was a doe at 80 yds broadside slighty quartering to me entry low behind shoulder exit low mid ribs with lots of damage between, knocked her off her feet she then ran 30 yds before piling up. my three friends havent been as fortunate with six deer shot and only two recovered, they have given up on bos, they call them hole punchers with hole in hole out same size and almost no blood anyway ILL be going with a 45 pacnor soon and will have 150 bos for sale 43.00 per box shipped if you take all, pm me if interested. hillbill,
Sounds like your friends needs to hit the vitals more often and sharpen up on marksmanship. Not sure if switching bullets will help their problems. JMO

hillbill,I agree with your friends the BO's should be renamed hole punchers.BO's are great shooters but IMO poor killers.Tell your friends to try the 300XTP(Non-mag).I killed my two biggest bucks this year with the BO's both were boiler room and both went over 100 yards with one going about 225 yards. One had a small blood trail and the other no blood trail.I went back to the regular 300XTP.
